On the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day, SDM College of Physiotherapy Celebrated Physiotherapy week. Following events were organized.

On the occasion of World physiotherapy day Community physiotherapy department of SDM Physiotherapy College arranged a week long events in and around Hubli- Dharwad to create awareness regarding osteoarthritis and role of physiotherapy in the same.
A camp was organized in association with SDM Community medicine department on 7 September 2022 to create awareness on Knee osteoarthritis at Pudakalakatti village Yadwad. To interest in the topic a skit was performed by physiotherapy students with create information on the symptoms of osteoarthritis and the available treatment and management options including environmental modifications for improving quality of life, followed by evaluation sessions, group exercises and education through poster presentation. Additionally, the pamphlets were given to the participants that contained the pictures of exercises for better understanding so that the participants can easily follow the exercise prescription. Dr. Salima Bijapuri, Associate Professor SDM Physiotherapy, Post graduates, Interns and UG’s of SDMCPT, Dharwad were part of the camp.
On 9th September, an Osteoarthritis awareness and evaluation camp was conducted at Vanaprastha Ashram Dharwad. The session consisted of a talk on Osteoarthritis, early identification of symptoms, prevention of falls, pain relieving techniques and management of symptoms with exercises. The individual concerns were addressed along with the personalized exercise prescription and education pamphlets. Dr. Salima Bijapuri, Associate Professor and Dr. Shweta Bhatbolan, Associate Professor SDM Physiotherapy, Post graduates, Interns and UG’s of SDMCPT, Dharwad were part of the camp.
On 10th September 2022, as a part of world physiotherapy day celebration Physical Fitness Awareness and evaluation camp was conducted at Gurukula School Dharwad. The purpose of camp was to create awareness about the importance of physiotherapy to achieve and manage physical fitness amongst the parents of school going children and teachers. From SDM College of Physiotherapy Dr. Salima Bijapuri, Associate Professor and Dr. Shweta Bhatbolan, Associate Professor and students participated in the camp. There were five stations designed and tastefully decorated with balloons to evaluate different components of physical fitness, (A) Body composition (height, weight, and waist circumference), (B) Balance, (C) Speed- agility, (D) Musculoskeletal fitness and (E) Cardiorespiratory fitness. Accordingly, assessment was done followed by game sessions to encourage children. Post evaluation an interaction session was organized for parents with the physiotherapy staff to understand their children’s report and education on how to improve the fitness level. Before starting the camp to make the assessment kids friendly yet scientifically correct the instructions were given to the children in their language in a playful manner and the encouragement. At the end of all the activities chocolates and 5 stars were distributed to all students as a mark of achievement.
On the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day in SDM polyclinic, Musculoskeletal physiotherapy department conducted a free Physiotherapy Camp in association with department of Orthopaedics, SDMCMS&H and Rotary Club Dharwad heritage. The theme for the day was osteoarthritis. The camp was directed towards assessment and diagnosis of osteoarthritis, Physiotherapy awareness and treatment and Bone Mineral Density Screening. The camp included 128 patients. All the 128 patients underwent Bone Mineral Density Screening and 75 patients were diagnosed with osteoarthritis by orthopaedician, Dr. Santosh Jeevannavar, Professor & HOD, Dr. Aravind Patil, Assistant Professor and joint replacement surgeon, and Dr. Naveen Patil, Assistant Professor and underwent Physiotherapy awareness and treatment by Dr. Prashant Mukkannavar, Professor and Dr. Sweta Kulkarni, Professor, of Musculoskeletal Disorders unit & Post graduates, Interns and UG’s of SDMCPT, Dharwad.
Cyclothon- 2022 was organised jointly by SDM College of Physiotherapy with Physiotherapy practitioners of Hubli- Dharwad on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day on Thursday, 8th September 2022. Cyclothon was organised with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyle and quoting the importance of fitness and its role in prevention of Osteoarthritis. Cyclothon commenced from SDM Hospital Campus at 7:30 am and the event was flagged off by Dr Niranjan Kumar, Honourable Vice- Chancellor, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University. A total of 93 cyclists participated in the event covering a total distance of about 15 kms. Dr Sunil K M, Principal, Dr. Sudhir Bhatbolan, Associate Professor, Dr Amit Hosur, Dr Harsha Yalgi, teaching and non- teaching staff from constituent institutes, UG and PG students enthusiastically participated in this event and pedalled together for the cause of spreading awareness.
