The establishment of SDM College of Physiotherapy, in the year 1996, at Dharwad (Karnataka), is a fine example of the foresight of our Chancellor, Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade. The College is situated in a picturesque surrounding between Dharwad and Hubballi- Dharwad are well connected by road, railway, and airways to other major parts of the country such as Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, etc. The College which started in a modest way has now expanded gradually and steadily in every aspect and has completed 25 glorious years by the blessing & the grace of Lord Manjunatha Swamy and our Chancellor, Poojya Shri D. Veerendra Heggade. The college is a constituent unit of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University and is recognized by the Govt. of Karnataka.

The college has well qualified & experienced staff with different specialties to provide knowledge and skills to the students. The campus is a sprawling 70 acres campus with all amenities inside the campus. The institute is equipped with spacious classrooms, which are well furnished and equipped with audio visual aids. The college has a library which is up-to-date with books, journals and catalogues along with internet facilities. Both hostel and mess facilities are available for students on the campus. Facilities like a well-equipped gym, tennis court, swimming pool, indoor court and play ground for sports activities are available for student utilization. The campus also houses a bank, ATM's, cafeteria, prayer hall, stores, auditorium etc. A 1200 capacity auditorium is also located in the campus for annual cultural activities, conferences, workshops and meets.

The Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade is a multi-faceted personality who combines in him many roles. Being the head of a religious institution that draws millions, he is the dispenser of justice whose word is law. As the president of the Society, he is the guiding spirit and driving force behind the institution. His vision of an educational model that blends the best of tradition and modernity has proved to be the most appropriate one for our culture and times.

Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Educational Society(R), Ujire is a premier-non-profit educational organization, functioning under the aegis of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, which is known for a unique embodiment of Dharma. It is renowned for its Lord Manjunatha Swamy temple and the Dharmadhikari known as Heggade who practices 'Annadana, Abhaydana, Aushadhadhana, Vidyadana' as per divine injunction. He also spearheads many programs related to rural development and social service. Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society, Ujire., is engaged in providing value based education through its schools, colleges, professional institutions such as Management institutions, Medical and Dental Colleges, Engineering Colleges, Ayurveda colleges and Naturopathy colleges in the state of Karnataka. Located in Dakshina Kannada district of the Karnataka state, SDM Educational Society is a center known for its educational excellence that has an outstanding track record of dedicated service in the sector of education and health.

Keeping in with the prime objective of the SDME Society of providing value based education and social service, the SDM College of Physiotherapy, Dharwad was established in the year 1996 to address the ever growing demand by the society for quality health care professionals delivering quality health care through quality infrastructure at an affordable cost to alleviate human suffering through healing hands.

The Institution since its inception has garnered tremendous amount of goodwill from the public which is reflected in its unprecedented growth statistics. A new Super-specialty Block capable of housing 400 beds to accommodate the increasing patient population from all walks of life. The Management feels a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction noting that its services are reaching and helping the suffering and needy segment of the population.

Students who have graduated from the Physiotherapy College are bringing laurels to the Institution through their conduct, character and practice of value based medicine.

On behalf of the SDM College of Physiotherapy, we extend warm greetings to you all and hope the time you spend on this Website is fruitful. I am proud to be the Principal of this College of which is established since 1996 and has completed 25 years of its existence.

On establishment in 1996, the Physiotherapy College was affiliated under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. Since December 2018 the College is proud part of the newly constituted Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University. The visionary leader Poojya Shri D Veerendra Heggade started the College under the aegis of SDM Educational Society as its President who is also the Chancellor of SDM University. Dr. Niranjan Kumar, Vice Chancellor is leading the University who is also the backbone of our College of Physiotherapy.

We at SDM College of Physiotherapy, Dharwad endeavor to impart high standard Physiotherapy Education since its Inception to produce world class Physiotherapy Professionals. The College is situated in a serene and picturesque surrounding alongside the Hubli – Dharwad National Highway at Sattur, Dharwad. Our Institute works with highly qualified, experienced and knowledgeable faculty who are skilled in advanced level of teaching technologies and are oriented towards Education and Research. The College offers BPT, MPT and Ph.D. Programs supported by 1600 bedded SDM Hospital, which caters the Clinical exposure in various Specialties like Musculoskeletal and sports, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Cardiorespiratory, Community, Pediatric, OBG to the Physiotherapy Students.

As SDM College of Physiotherapy is attached to SDM College of Medical Sciences & Hospital, we have spacious well equipped laboratories, lecture halls with projector & computer’s. We provide excellent library facilities with a central library in Medical college and a separate physiotherapy library. There are approximately 2502 reference books, 10 national and international journals, advanced digital library facilities.

Our Out patient department is highly equipped and we’ll planned department which helps to provide a gentle touch to the patients and also provide better quality clinical education to the students. Our aim is to work with patients one on one and to develop programs tailored to patient's specific needs.

Research is an integral part of our institution. We have a research and Publication Unit that helps faculty in research, publication and generation of grants. We have been able to generate a grant of Rs. 2.94 lakhs so far. We have international and national research collaboration with University of Manitoba, Canada, Wanless Hospital, Miraj and SDM College of Engineering, Dharwad. We also help students of our institution for placement in India and abroad.

Besides these we also conduct various outreach programmes like rural posting to the post graduates and under graduates, various camps in and around Hubballi-Dharwad, industrial visits, posting in special schools, postings in Sports authority of India and old age home. By doing this our aim is to serve the mankind by providing service to the weaker section of our society which is the vision of our beloved Chancellor.

Under the dynamic leadership and support of our Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor we are on our way to make SDM College of Physiotherapy a world class college in providing education, high quality care for the patients.

Physiotherapy is a very broad field. Physiotherapists work with patients and their families/ carers to address problems experienced by them as a result of illness, injury and disability. Physiotherapists can practice autonomously whenever they are the first point of contact for clients/ patients or as part of the health care team.

The field has enormous currier opportunities in both Government and Private sectors in India and abroad. Students can pursue Master's degree post completion of the Bachelor's degree to obtain specialisations in their field of interest. Candidates may also pursue a Ph.D. following their Master's degree.

A number of our alumni have been placed well across the globe, while many have explored the field of sports physiotherapy and are a part of various sports bodies at State and National levels.
