About

A Ph.D. in health administration rewards students for the years of study and effort with the opportunity to pursue careers that are both financially rewarding and benefit the larger community. Doctoral degrees require extensive post-graduate coursework, along with research, writing and defence of an original contribution to scholarship in the field. Graduates pursue careers teaching at universities, performing research, consulting with health care organizations or directly managing health care companies at an executive leveL Through these varied positions, graduates are able to improve the delivery of health services to the community.

Program Requirements

Doctoral degrees are the highest degrees granted by universities and require a substantial amount of work. Prospective students must have a master's degree in a related field.
Students should secure min 50% in the entrance exam conducted by the SDM university.
Students must get through the interview conducted by the panel of research expertise for getting enrolled.
Once enrolled, scholars must complete min three years of course along with comprehensive written examinations. Scholars then conduct research and write a dissertation - an original work of scholar that advances the field of health administration - and defend it before an expert faculty committee.

Career Prospects

The career options for graduates of a Ph.D. in health administration range from teaching and research to management of health care organizations. Doctoral degrees qualify graduates for professorships in health administration at the university level where they can contribute to the field through research and teaching. Graduates also find employment in research institutes where they develop and analyse health care policy. Additionally, the health administration Ph.D. can lead to careers in upper administrative positions in health care companies like hospitals, health management organizations or health insurance companies.

Subject to the conditions stipulated in these regulations, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. Programme

  1. A post Graduate Qualification in the respective Branch as in note C with 55 per cent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade "B" in the UGC 7 - point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale depending on the grading system followed)
    Note:
    1. A relaxation of 5% marks, (from 55% to 50%), or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently abled and other categories of candidates.
    2. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures. The Percentage shall not be rounded off to the next figure.
    3. The eligibility of candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria for admission to Ph.D. programme except for the criteria of having required percentage of marks mentioned at "I.A" and "I.B" above at their qualifying examination; because of the declaration of the result of the respective universities without marking or grade system will be decided by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University.
  2. The Students who score 50% and above marks in the Entrance Examination are declared qualified for admission as per calendar of events in that particular academic year only.
  3. For Physiotherapy: Candidates with a post graduate degree in Physiotherapy i.e., MPT degree awarded by this University or a Master's degree from other universities recognized as equivalent by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University are eligible for enrolment to Ph.D. course in Physiotherapy.
    Note for foreign university candidates:
    1. The candidates qualified from foreign Universities intending to register for Ph.D. programme should obtain "equivalence of qualification certificate"/eligibility certificate from Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University before admission.
    2. All foreign nationals should produce valid passport, visa and police permission for residential permit to stay in India.
    3. All the foreign nationals should get the temporary registration done from the respective speciality apex bodies e.g. Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Indian Nursing council, UGC etc. as applicable.

The Institute is permitted to enrol 3 students per year for Ph.D. in Physiotherapy.

The course duration for full time Ph.D. course will be a minimum of three years and for part time course it will be minimum of four years and in both the cases it will be extendable up to maximum of six years from the date of registration.
